Were Having a House Fire! Want to Join Us?

Have you ever looked around your home and said, "I really wish we could come home someday and have all this be gone...and start over."?  (With the insurance money, of course!)

Now, I don't want to be insensitive to anyone who has ever experienced loosing everything in a home fire...I'm sure it is awful and involves grieving like in a death and TONS of stress in rebuilding a home and a life...

But clutter and stuff causes stress in life too:
     * 75% of American garages are too full of "stuff" to park a car in!
     * The number of things stuck to the outside your household refrigerator has actual correlations to the amount of clutter in your home.
     * Mother's tend to have consistently elevated levels of stress hormones because of the stress their home clutter causes them.
     * Clutter can cause depression
(Sources: here, here, here, here, here)

We have noticed the stress that clutter brings and have been trying to simplify the stuff in our home, but it wasn't until we actually wished for a house fire, that we realized what we had been doing wasn't enough.  Baby steps are good, but it was not happening fast enough to make a big enough dent to reduce the stress.  It wasn't happening fast enough to get ahead and constantly combat the influx of "stuff."

We decided to be ruthless and drastic: anything we wouldn't replace in the event of a fire (or theft, etc), we would get rid of...including supplies for projects that we hope will happen "someday."

We've started.  We've made a dent.  We can see progress.  We still have a long way to go.  But we are encouraged!

Will you join us?  Will you take drastic measures in 2015 to clear clutter, reduce stress, and change your life?

This will look differently for every person, for every family.  It will take work, physical and emotion and spiritual work.  But it will be worth it!

We will be sharing what we are doing and how we are doing it in our home.  We hope that even though your family, home and needs may be different from ours, you can find encouragement and some useful tidbits that will work for your family!

You can subscribe by email so you don't miss anything.

  1. This is a great idea!

    We had a similar purge when we moved south--asking ourselves "do we really want to haul this across the country?" was a great way to sort stuff. I love the uncluttered life.
